Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

This trek is one of the most popular in Annapurna, because it is relatively easy, offers great scenery and does not go really high. Poon Hill is the highest point at 3210m.

Itinerary in details


Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu 1340m,
You'll be met at the airport by our representative from the company, so look out for a office sign/logo with your name when you leave the airport. They will bring you back to the Hotel. Welcome drinks will provide by Hotel and short briefing about your treks and refreshment. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 2: Full day sightseeing tour in Kathmandu Valley,
A free day to explore in the Kathmandu Valley. Our tour guide introduces as following Options: Climb the many steps to Swayambhunath (the monkey temple), with its commanding views of Kathmandu (1420m), its whitewashed Stupas and its unique synthesis of Buddhism and Hinduism. The striking Buddha eyes of Boudhanath Stupa watch over a lively and colorful Tibetan community and attract pilgrims from all over the Himalayan Buddhist realm. In the midst of traditional Gompas, and hung with long strings of multi-colored prayer flags, Boudhanath attracts Sherpas, Tibetans and tourists alike for daily circumambulations (Koras) of the Stupa. Durbar Square, one of the old capitals of the Kathmandu valley, is a synthesis of Hindu and Buddhist temples, stupas and statues, and is often the site of festivals, marriages and other ceremonies. Hindu Pashupatinath and its sacred temple complex on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Here, monkeys run up and down the steps of the burning ghats, and trident-bearing saddhus draped in burnt-orange and saffron sit serenely meditating - when they’re not posing for photos-for-rupees. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara 800m,
Up early for our short but scenic flight to Pokhara, 198 kilometers west of Kathmandu. You will fly high above the north-south Rivers flowing down towards the Terai from the Himalaya and Tibet, over terraced villages and green hills with the Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu and massif Annapurna ranges in the distance, to balmy, sub-tropical Pokhara. We will have an hour boating on Phewa Lake and visit Lakeside area by your own. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 4: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedunga 1540m (3/4 hours).
Morning after breakfast, our car will pick up you from Hotel and drive to Naya Pul which takes about 1 and half hour by private car.The trail leads you down to a hanging bridge over a small stream and afterwards walk through a barrage of tea stalls along the east bank of Modi Khola until reaching Birethanti where you will check in your permits. The left hand trail leads you winding through bamboo forests and past the several waterfalls. The trail stays on the north bank of Bhurungdi Khola until Sudami. Then the trail climbs steadily up the side of the valley to reach Hille and further walk up to Tikhedunga. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 5: Trek from Tikhedunga to Ghorepani 2750m (5/6 hours).
The trail crosses by suspension bridge over the Tikhedunga Khola and the trail climbs very steeply on a stone staircase that is said to have more than 3500 steps and the unrelenting staircase continues to reach Ulleri village after 2 hours walking. Now you can see the good view of Machhapuchre, Hiun Chuli and Annapurna South. Then above the village where the trail climbs gently through pastures and cultivated fields and soon gives a way to deep forests as the trail climbs to Banthanti. Then after you walk through the magnificent oak and rhododendron forests passing sparkling clear streams, a small ridge and another stream before making a short final climb to Nangethanti. An hour walking through the rhododendron forests to reach at Ghorepani, a village of Magar peoples. The mountains are visible from your lodges which are in nice weather and stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 6: Trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani 2590m (5/6 hours).
Early in the morning, an hour’s climb from Ghorepani to Poon Hill through the busses of Rhododendrons forests for the spectacular view of high Mountains stretches from Mt. Dhaulagiri 8167m, Tukuche Peak 6920m, Nilgiri 6940m, Baraha Shikhar 7847m, Mt. Annapurna I 8091m, Annapurna South 7219m, Annapurna III 7855m, Machhapuchhre 6993m, Annapurna IV 7525m, Annapurna II 7937m, Lamjung Himal 6931m and unobstructed view of sunrise over the Himalayas is a defining moment. You can enjoy with brilliant view of mountains and sunrise view. Then you return back to Lodge and will have your breakfast. After that, the trail steeply ascending until Deurali-La on a grassy knoll that offers good Mountain views similar to those from Poon Hill which takes 2 hours from Ghorepani. Then the trail descends through deep rhododendron forest until reaching Banthanti which takes about 2 hours and where you will have your lunch. Sometime you can see the wild animals like monkeys and local birds during the jungle trail. After lunch, cross the north side of stream and it will offer great views over the gorge to Ulleri. A rocky trail descends steeply to small stream and climbing again dishearteningly through deep forests to Tadapani, a village which is surrounded by beautiful forests. You can see more magnificent view of Machhapuchre, Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli and Annapurna II etc. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 7: Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk 1940m (3/4 hours).
In the morning, after breakfast your trek slightly descending through the deep forests until reaching Baise Kharka which takes an hour of smooth walking and descends again in the sub-tropical forest until reaching Ghandruk village and which almost takes about 2 hours. You will have lunch. You can see a very good view of Fish Tail, Annapurna South and other small snowy peak. Afternoon you will go to visit the Buddhist Monastery and Old Traditional Gurung Museum. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 8: Trek from Ghandruk to Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara 820m (4/5 hours).
In this day also you start your trek in the morning. Then the trail descends many stone staircase to a stream and water-driven mill and trek down to entrance arch where the trail down to Landruk and Nayapul in the right hand, dropping at the first on a staircase and then traversing high above the river on a wide stone-paved trail. Cross a small stream and follow the ridge down hill to Syauli Bazar. From here walking is flat on dusty road follows the river valley through a lovely birch forest and extensive rice terraces to Birethanti where you will check out your permits again that you will be our of conservation area. Half an hour walk rough road to Nayapul where you have a short climb to road and our car wait for you to drive back to Pokhara after your short trip in Poon Hill. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 9: Fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.
Early in the morning after breakfast, our car drive to airport, flight back to Kathmandu which takes about 25 minutes and our car will pick up and transfer to hotel.

Day 10: Final departure to international airport as per your flight schedule.

P.S. In case of Emergency Evacuation during the trip, Helicopter Rescue will be arranged by Mystique Nepal Himalayan Trekking & Expedition (P) Ltd within 1-2 hours in first call. The cost of the rescue must be paid by the clients themselves or insurance company.

TREKKING/TOUR CANCELLATION PROCEDURES:

There will be a cancellation fee of 30% for any cancellation unforeseen problems shown one month prior to Trekking/Tour departure date, a cancellation fee of 50% two weeks prior to Trekking/Tour departure date and no refund thereafter. No refund for no shows & delay arrivals whatsoever reason.
