A trek in the Langtang & Helambu regions to the stunning Gosainkund Lakes


A fully supported camping based trek to the sacred lakes of Gosainkund in the Helambu region. Although only a day’s drive from Kathmandu, this region is relatively isolated and predominantly inhabited by the Tamangs and Helambu Sherpas who originated in Tibet just to the north. A trek in this region offers the opportunity to view traditional village life amid a picturesque alpine wilderness and affords brilliant views of the mighty peaks of Langtang (7234m) and Ganesh (7446m) as well as a sprawl of endless 6000m+ summits. A highlight of our trek is a visit to Kyanjing Gompa.

Itinerary in details


Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu 1340m,
You'll be met at the airport by our representative from the company, so look out for a office sign/logo with your name when you leave the airport. They will bring you back to the Hotel. Welcome drinks will provide by Hotel and short briefing about your treks and refreshment. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 2: Full day sightseeing tour in Kathmandu Valley,
A free day to explore in the Kathmandu Valley. Our tour guide introduces as following Options: Climb the many steps to Swayambhunath (the monkey temple), with its commanding views of Kathmandu (1420m), its whitewashed Stupas and its unique synthesis of Buddhism and Hinduism. The striking Buddha eyes of Boudhanath Stupa watch over a lively and colorful Tibetan community and attract pilgrims from all over the Himalayan Buddhist realm. In the midst of traditional Gompas, and hung with long strings of multi-colored prayer flags, Boudhanath attracts Sherpas, Tibetans and tourists alike for daily circumambulations (Koras) of the Stupa. Durbar Square, one of the old capitals of the Kathmandu valley, is a synthesis of Hindu and Buddhist temples, stupas and statues, and is often the site of festivals, marriages and other ceremonies. Hindu Pashupatinath and its sacred temple complex on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Here, monkeys run up and down the steps of the burning ghats, and trident-bearing saddhus draped in burnt-orange and saffron sit serenely meditating - when they’re not posing for photos-for-rupees. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi 1500m
After an early breakfast we drive north from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Parts of the road are unsealed and the condition of the road often depends upon the monsoon season. We will travel via Trisuli Bazaar where the dam and hydroelectric project was completed by the Indian Technical Mission. Finally we drive on to Syabrubesi where we will make final preparations for our trek. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 4: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel 2470m
We cross through the village of Syabrubesi crossing over several suspension bridges and ascend to the Langtang Kola. Slowly the trail climbs gently through the forest with the river flowing beside us. The forest becomes sparser and drier on this side of the river, consisting mainly of scrub oaks and nettles. Finally we climb steeply on a good trail to Rimche and on to our lodge in Lama Hotel. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 5: Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang 3420m
We continue to follow the Langtang Khola climbing steeply through hemlocks, oaks, maples and rhododendron forest to the national park checkpoint at Ghora Tabela (2970m). Beautiful views of Langtang Lirung (7225m) can be seen from here. The trail ascends gradually, as the valley becomes wider and we pass many mani stones, water-driven prayer wheels and scattered Tamang villages before arriving in Langtang village. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 6: Trek from Lantang to Kyanjing Gompa 3780m
Passing through the village of Langtang we climb gradually past yak pastures and the small villages of Mumdu and Sindum. After crossing a wooden cantilever bridge over Langtang Khola, we reach a wider valley scattered with large boulders to a moraine. Here we gain the first views of Kyanjin Gompa and the dramatic icefall flowing from Langtang Lirung and Langtang Kinshung (6781m) to the north. Our route weaves through large boulders before a short descent to Kyanjin Gompa. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 7: Acclimatization Day: hike to Tsergo-Ri 4985m

Today you have a full day excursion and hike to Tsergo-Ri which is in the elevation of 4985m high above the sea level. You start in the morning after breakfast. First you walk level trail about 30 minutes and you cross small stream. Then the trail continues steep ascending with viewing the panoramic snow capped mountains which takes about 3 and half hours. You have a superb view of Langtang Lirung, Nayakhang, Gangchembu, Ganja-La range, Yala peak, Langshisha Ri and other snowy peaks. If you want to explore more and spend long time on the top, you better to take packed lunch from your Lodge. After enjoying, you climb down till your lodge which takes about 2 and half hour. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 8: Trek from Kyanjing Gompa to Lama Hotel 2470m
Today we retrace our route along the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela (3020m). The trail is for the most part downhill, descending to Lama Hotel and Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 9: Trek from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru 2180m
Following the same route until we reach the upper trail on the ridge we arrive at the pleasant village of Thulo Syabru. This gives us an opportunity to gain an insight into the tradition, culture and custom of the local Tamang community. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 10: Trek from Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa 3250m
Passing a school and army post, we proceed up a steep hill above the village to Dursagang. After Dursagang, the trail is less steep and largely forested to the top of the ridge at Fhulung Danda. The only sign of human habitation are the occasional shepherd huts. The trail eventually levels as it crosses the head of the valley and after passing the ridge we arrive at Sing Gompa. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 11: Trek from Sing Gompa to Gosainkund 4100m
Following a rugged trail we climbs steeply up the ridge, with dramatic views of Himal Chuli (7893m)and Manaslu (8156m)as our backdrop. To the west Ganesh Himal (7406m) rises up behind and to the north across the valley is Langtang Lirung. The area on the northern slope is a sanctuary for the red panda (locally known as the cat bear), an endangered species. We pass a few huts in the high pasture of Laurebina and cross a ridge for our first view of the holy lakes. Gosainkund is a protected area where the killing of animals, lighting of wood fires and grazing of goats is prohibited. There are about a dozen lakes in Gosiankund Basin, the most prominent being Saraswati Kunda, Bhairav Kunda and Gosiankund. According to legend, Shiva created the lake when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after consuming poison. There are stone shelters at Gosiankund used by pilgrims who visit to worship and bathe during the full-moon festival each August. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 12: Trek from Gosainkund to Gopte 3430m
We climb further passing three more lakes near the Laurebina pass (4610m). After the pass, we descend alongside a stream to the national park post at Bhera Goth. The trail drops to a stream and then climbs through scrub bamboo to a crest and finally drops to Duphi Charu and further down to Gopte. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 13: Trek from Gopte to Mangengoth 3420m
The trail continues up the ravines before we make our make a final ascent to Tharepati. From the ridge we can see into the Helambu region. Soon we descend to the tree line, passing beautiful waterfalls and rhododendron forest to Mangengoth. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 14: Trek from Mangengoth to Golphu Bhanjyang 2130m
On our descent from the ridge of Kutumsang, there are several lodges below with spectacular mountain views. We continue down to the village of Golphu Bhanjyang and nest day of morning a short climb to Thotung Danda on the top of the ridge. The views here are stunning and it is highly recommended to make the effort to rise early in the morning and catch the sunrise over this unforgettable mountain panorama. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 15: Trek from Golphu Bhanjyang to Chisopani 2215m
Dropping steadily through fir, rhododendron and oak forest we pass through the Tamang village of Gul Bhanjyang. The trail afterward is gentle ups and downs and follows a ridge to our camp site. This is an excellent view point of the Himalayan range from Manaslu to Everest. Stay overnight at Lodge.

Day 16: Trek from Chisopani to Sundarijal  and return drive to Kathmandu
Today is the final day of our trek, and we make the most of our last stunning views before a final climb to Burlang Bhanjyang (2420m). After the pass we descend to Sundarijal where we meet our transport for the return drive to Kathmandu. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 17: Final departure to international airport as per your flight schedule.

Tipping is expected but it is not mandatory and can be treated end of the trip if satisfied.

P.S. In case of Emergency Evacuation during the trip, Helicopter Rescue will be arranged by Mystique Nepal Himalayan Trekking & Expedition (P) Ltd within 1-2 hours in first call. The cost of the rescue must be paid by the clients themselves or insurance company.

There will be a cancellation fee of 30% for any cancellation unforeseen problems shown one month prior to Trekking/Tour departure date, a cancellation fee of 50% two weeks prior to Trekking/Tour departure date and no refund thereafter. No refund for no shows & delay arrivals whatsoever reason.
