Jomsom-Muktinath Family Lodge Trek (Horse Riding), 9 Days

Jomsom Muktinath trek is one of the popular trekking destinations in Annapurna region. Join our classic lodge trek for families in the Mustang region that includes the world's deepest gorge of the Kali Gandaki River, Jomsom-Muktinath Trek. Muktinath is a sacred place for both Hindus and Tibetan Buddhists at 3750 meters at the Annapurna Circuit in the Himalayas of Nepal. It is a great example of how two religions can share the same holy spot with mutual respect and support. In Muktinath all the elements are represented, not only earth, air and holy water, but also fire. Beside trees are growing at an unusual altitude. For this and reasons unseen yogis from both religions do their meditation at Muktinath. The trek reaching the maximum altitude of 3800m and can be completed by anybody with a moderate level of fitness. Continuing along the Kali Gandaki River Gorge, marvel at the splendid peaks of Annapurna-I and Dhaulagiri both of which reach heights in excess of 8000m. Explore the hundreds of years old monastery, caves, local tribes and scenic beauties of the different landscapes. Make an adventure starting from world's deepest gorge Kali Gandaki Region into world's highest regions passing through an almost tree-less barren landscape, a steep rocky trail up and down hill and panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several other peaks. The initial days of the trek through the Annapurna region ascends through rice terraces and villages inhabited by the indigenous people, mostly the Gurungs.

Itinerary in details

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu 1340m,
You'll be met at the airport by our representative from the company, so look out for a office sign/logo with your name when you leave the airport. They will bring you back to the Hotel. Welcome drinks will provide by Hotel and short briefing about your treks and refreshment. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 2: Full day sightseeing tour in Kathmandu Valley,

A free day to explore in the Kathmandu Valley. Our tour guide introduces as following Options: Climb the many steps to Swayambhunath (the monkey temple), with its commanding views of Kathmandu (1420m), its whitewashed Stupas and its unique synthesis of Buddhism and Hinduism. The striking Buddha eyes of Boudhanath Stupa watch over a lively and colorful Tibetan community and attract pilgrims from all over the Himalayan Buddhist realm. In the midst of traditional Gompas, and hung with long strings of multi-colored prayer flags, Boudhanath attracts Sherpas, Tibetans and tourists alike for daily circumambulations (Koras) of the Stupa. Durbar Square, one of the old capitals of the Kathmandu valley, is a synthesis of Hindu and Buddhist temples, stupas and statues, and is often the site of festivals, marriages and other ceremonies. Hindu Pashupatinath and its sacred temple complex on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Here, monkeys run up and down the steps of the burning ghats, and trident-bearing saddhus draped in burnt-orange and saffron sit serenely meditating - when they’re not posing for photos-for-rupees. Stay overnight in Hotel.

Day 3: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara 800m.

Up early for our short but scenic flight to Pokhara, 198 kilometers west of Kathmandu. You will fly high above the north-south Rivers flowing down towards the Terai from the Himalaya and Tibet, over terraced villages and green hills with the Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Manaslu and massif Annapurna ranges in the distance, to balmy, sub-tropical Pokhara. Our car will pick up you from airport and drive to Hotel.

Day 4: Pokhara to Jomsom 2710m by flight (40 minutes) and Trek to Marpha 2670m (3/4 hours) via Thini Village & Dhumpha Lake,
Early in the morning, we will go to airport by taxi and we fly to Jomsom and will have breakfast. Then we will walk to Old Jomsom village and continue through the large Thakali village of Thini which takes about 1 hour. Again we will continue our trek to Dhumpha Lake and Katsapterenga Gompa. We will visit this monastery and continue our trek to Syang cross by suspension bridge over the Kaligandaki River which takes about 2 hours. Then we will keep walking until reaching Marpha village which is also known as capital city of Apple. It takes about 30 minutes. We will have lunch there and visit the ancient monastery of that village. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 5: Trek from Marpha to Kagbeni 2800m (5/6 hours),
In the morning after breakfast, we will keep walking in the level trail until reaching Jomsom which takes about 1 and half hour. Then we continue our trail passing the River bank of Kaligandaki until reaching Eklebatti which takes about 2 and half hour. We can see glimpse of Mt. Dhaulagiri during the trail. We will have lunch there. After lunch, we continue until reaching Kagbeni which takes about 1 hour. We can visit the red-painted Gompa about 1000 years old. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 6: Trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath 3800m (4/5 hours),

The trail steeply ascent brings us to Kinghar village about 2 hours walk. Then we continue until reaching Jharkot which takes about 1 hour and we will have lunch there. After lunch, we ascend little more to reach Muktinath about 1 hour. We will visit the newly constructed Buddhist Monastery and stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 7: Exploration Day;
We hike to secret place for Hindus and Tibetan Buddhist in about 30 minutes in its compound. We can visit the 108 brass water spouts, Muktinath temple stands enshrining Vishnu, a Hindu god. When we visit Muktinath Temple at once, we are free/salvation of escape from the cycle of birth and rebirth. Below the temple there is another Buddhist monastery where the combination of earth-water-fire that gives for Muktinath’s great religious significance. And we can also see the magnificent view of Nilgiri Himal and Daulagiri I. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 8: Trek from Muktinath to Eklebatti 2740m (4/5 hours),
Morning after breakfast, we will walk down to Jharkot for an hour and visit the Old Sakya-Pa Sect Monastery and Traditional Medical Center. After visit, the trail descends slightly until Kinghar village which takes 1 and half hour and we will have lunch there. After lunch, the trail is descending until reaching Eklebatti which takes about 2 hours. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 9: Trek from Eklebatti to Jomsom 2710m via Lupra Village 2790m (4/5 hours),

Morning after breakfast, we will start out trek along the Kaligandaki River, and follow the left hand side trail to go Lupra along the small stream which takes about 2 hours, One of the oldest settlements of the region.  Highlight of the day is a visit to the Lupra monastery which was founded in the 11th century by Lupragpa, a famous Bon master.  It is very seldom that tourists or as a matter of fact even locals visit this place. We visit one of the oldest Bon-Po Monastery in Annapurna Region. Bon is the ancient shamanist faith once prevalent in Tibet and adjoining Himalayan territory which later got incorporated into the mainstream Tibetan Buddhism. Lupra (2790m) is an interesting offbeat side-trip; few trekkers make it here but the village, with its adobe houses and traditionally clad inhabitants is worth a visit. Then, all the same way back to main trail which takes about 1 and half hour and we keep walking along the Kaligandaki River until Jomsom which takes about 1 and half hour. Stay overnight in Lodge.

Day 10: Jomsom to Pokhara by flight and after fly back to Kathmandu,

Early in the morning, we fly back to Pokhara and afternoon fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.

Day 11: Buffer day for flight cancellation due to bad weather and stay overnight at Hotel.

Day 12: Final departure from Kathmandu, after breakfast, transfer to international airport as per your flight schedule.

P.S. In case of Emergency Evacuation during the trip, Helicopter Rescue will be arranged by Mystique Nepal Himalayan Trekking & Expedition (P) Ltd within 1-2 hours in first call. The cost of the rescue must be paid by the clients themselves or insurance company.


There will be a cancellation fee of 30% for any cancellation unforeseen problems shown one month prior to Trekking/Tour departure date, a cancellation fee of 50% two weeks prior to Trekking/Tour departure date and no refund thereafter. No refund for no shows & delay arrivals whatsoever reason.
